Stone Energy is independent oil and natural gas company engaged in the acquisition, exploration, exploitation, and development of oil and gas assets, primarily located in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The company has made strategic investments in the deepwater and deep-shelf GOM, and is also active in the Appalachia region; where it has established a significant acreage in the Marcellus shale. As of December 31, 2010, the companys estimated proved oil and natural gas reserves were approximately 473.9 bcfe. Stone Energy has a strong reserve base, with an equal percentage mix of oil and gas.

The company is following an aggressive strategy for the acquisition, exploration, exploitation, development, and operation of oil and gas assets. Stone Energy is planning to utilize cash flow from producing GOM shelf assets to fund exploration and development activities of other assets in the deepwater and deep-shelf GOM, as well as low risk, repeatable drilling opportunities in Appalachia.
