The Belarusian construction industry experienced strong growth over the review period, recording a CAGR of XX.XX%. This was largely due to an extensive government programme to upgrade the countrys transport and logistics infrastructure, meet the rising demand for commercial and retail space, and construct a large number of new homes. Furthermore, foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Belarus grew steadily during 20062008, due to government efforts to liberalize the Belarusian economy and develop the countrys investment ambiance. However, while the Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko, has made the attraction of increased levels of FDI a priority, FDI inflows decelerated in 2009 due to the global financial crisis.
